How to Prevent Broadband internet Loss
Having a wireless Internet connection is very convenient in many ways. However, along with that convenience and ease of use always come a few pitfalls. The biggest pitfall is when you lose your signal. A lost signal means no connection to the Internet!
A few years ago, you lived without the Internet the entire time you went to high school. Those days are long gone and you probably don’t go more than a day before you even check your email. Maybe you can’t even go a day – how about six hours? Can you go six hours without checking to see who made it in your inbox?
Back to the loss. If you can stand a loss and many of us can’t, good for you. What happens if you are a person who happens to be in the middle of a conference, doing a remote job or even doing some research online and you lose your signal? Well, you’re kinda outta luck. There are a few things you can do to try and minimize your down time or even try to get yourself back up soon.
To make sure your signal isn’t lost because of a hacker, get a firewall put up. A firewall will keep hackers from getting your signal and hijacking the line away from you. A firewall will also keep out any viruses or worms that can be sent over the wire that might shut your service down. The firewalls can range from being very strict to being moderate. They all depend on how you configure them in the beginning.
Secondly, and this one might even make you laugh, but remember to pay your bill on time! The biggest reason people lose the wireless signal is that they forget to pay for their cell phone bill and it gets shut off. Once your phone service gets shut off, your signal may not resume for several more hours, even if you pay it immediately. The signal they send to shut off your phone is instant, but getting it back takes several hours worth of processing. Interesting, huh?
Another reason you may lose you Internet signal is completely out of your control – satellite positions. Sometimes a satellite gets in a goofy spot or they have a malfunction and your wireless connection fails to work. The only thing you can do is call in to the technical support team, report your problem to make sure they are working on it and wait. Hopefully it won’t be long before you are back up and running again.
Other things you can’t control are acts of God and Mother Nature. When the weather is bad, you might not get a clear signal either. On the flip side of that, when you live in a heavily populated area and have a bad storm, many people try to call in to see how everyone is doing and the circuits get too jammed and cannot connect. Again, the only thing you can do is sit and wait for the circuits to die down.
