Why Look Forward to 4G Wireless Internet?

March 2, 2010 | Author: | Posted in Communications

4G wireless internet refers to the next generation of cellular wireless Internet.  This is the successor to the old 3G and 2G technology, which at one time, were the talk of the town.  This new age of Internet technology has a wider range of data rates, some up to ultra-broadband speed, which is roughly one gigabyte of speed.  The main benefit of this technology is that it can be used on practically any type of system from a PC to a mobile system.

A 4G system usually has peak data rates that are very high; perhaps as high as 100 Mbit/s for high mobility and 1 Gbit/s for low mobility.  This Internet technology also has scalable bandwidth up to 40 MHz.  This technology can be used for everything from high speed Internet surfing, to video game consoles to HDTV to IP telephony (digital phones).

What does this mean for you?  With this quality of Internet you will have the ability to take your system anywhere throughout the city.  The signal is strong enough to work throughout a much larger area.  It’s almost reminiscent of satellite technology, except that your system is not communicating with a satellite in the sky.  Instead, you are communicating with a locally based tower.

This ultra-powerful wireless Internet technology is superior to WI-FI Internet, because there is no “hot point” to find.  Instead, the entire city is your hot point.  You are basically followed around town by your Internet connection.  This means you can email large files from any interior or exterior location in the city.  You can watch movies or listen to music and never lose your Internet connection, regardless of where you go.

It’s like combining the portability of a cellular phone with the reliability and speed of a desktop PC with Broadband DSL.  Besides, computers are not the only devices capable of such communication.  Now other products besides computers are getting the 4G Internet treatment.  Devices like cell phones, digital phones, car TVs and video game consoles are also taking advantage of this next generation of Internet.

The results are that people are surfing the net at top speeds.  Whether this is a good or bad thing depends on a person’s personal level of Internet addiction.  Hey, for a guy who does business on the Internet, a super-fast and ultra-portable connection could save him hours in a day!  For the guy that can now watch an episode of Happy Tree Friends every half hour in a 24-hour period, maybe such high speeds are dangerous.

One thing is for sure: 4G Wimax technology is going to be a big thing in the coming years.  Remember in the 1990s when cell phones were just starting to appear here and there?  Now in 2010 it’s hard to find a person that doesn’t carry a cell phone.  Similarly, super-fast Internet services are increasing in awareness and will soon be the standard by which we surf.  For more information on this Next Gen Net contact your local ISP providers.
