Why Use Wardrobe Boxes?

When you’re getting ready to move, you’re probably already aware that the better you’ve planned the packing and unpacking process, the simpler the whole thing will be. One thing that you can debate over, though, is whether or not to use wardrobe boxes to pack your clothes in. Even though you might think these boxes are unnecessary, they may actually be a good idea for several reasons. Here are just a few things to think about before you write of wardrobe boxes.

These boxes, which essentially come with hanging poles in them, make it much simpler to pack and unpack your clothes. Instead of taking all of your clothes off of their hangers, folding them, putting them into boxes, moving them, unfolding them, and putting them back on their hangers before you hang them up, you just have to put them in the box on their hangers, move the boxes, and take them out of the box, still neatly on their hangers. The best wardrobe boxes will give you plenty of room to hang your clothes as well as a sturdy hanging bar that will hold quite a bit of weight.

You may be thinking that you can just leave your clothes on their hangers and cover them with trash bags like you did in college. Then, you just tie the hangers together, toss the whole thing in the moving van, and hang them up when you get to your new home. However, the best wardrobe boxes will actually work much better than this option because they’ll keep your clothing from getting wrinkled. If you’re transporting nice dry-clean-only suits, jackets, shirts, or blouses, you will want to keep them as wrinkle-free as possible. Transporting them in a box where you can hang them up will keep the clothes upright and hanging during the whole move so that you can unpack clean clothes that are ready to go as soon as you move in.

If you don’t have a lot of money in your moving budget, you might want to consider only packing a little bit of your wardrobe in wardrobe boxes. Buy a couple of the best wardrobe boxes you can find, and then pack either only your nicest clothes or only the clothes you’ll need right after you move. This way, you don’t have to spend a lot on these specialized boxes, but you’ll be able to have some neat, wrinkle-free clothes as soon as you unpack.
