Avoid the temptation to become lost in thought; it can easily make you a victim. Remain alert and vigilant.

While walking, even if you are just walking from a building to your vehicle, maintain a strong gait. If you walk with purpose and as if you know where you are going, many would-be predators will be deterred.

Always bring a cell phone with you if you have one. If you are worried about losing it, attach a cell phone case to your waistband.

Only walk in the daytime or in areas that are well-lit and busy. Location is crucial when you are on foot. Never walk on streets that are dark and avoid areas that appear to be devoid of people.
